how does a disorder get removed from the DSM?

The process of defining and describing 'mental disorders' is an interesting topic.  How does something become labeled as 'normal', or 'abnormal', pathological, or not? 

The DSM (diagnostic and statistical manual of mental disorders) is the main tool that we use.  Did you know that until relatively recently homosexuality was listed in the DSM?!
